Paul started to play brass instruments at the age of 6 in his local Salvation Army Band and entered the Royal College of Music as a scholar in 1999, studying orchestral trumpet with Malcolm Smith and Paul Beniston as well as the natural trumpet with David Blackadder and Neil Brough. Whilst there, he was principal trumpet of all of the RCM's main orchestra's and chamber ensembles including being selected to perform the obbligato trumpet part in Bach's Christmas Oratorio and the solo trumpet part in a performance of Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1. Paul graduated in July 2003 receiving the Herbert Samuel Memorial Prize for Trumpet and is now working as a successful freelance trumpet player based in London. He performs regularly with many top orchestras, opera companies, shows and chamber ensembles around the UK and Europe including being a founder member of the award-winning brass chamber group, Brass10 Paul is heavily involved in music education having been a regular member of the 'Elastic Band' run by Kevin Hathway for the past 5 years and he also works for the Education Department at the Royal Albert Hall. |
